We’re part of a global movement advocating for good, clean, and fair food for all.
From the seeds that were planted.
In March 1986, protestors in Rome, Italy, mobilized against the opening of a fast-food franchise. Activists brought bowls of home-cooked pasta to share with the crowd, chanting, “We don’t want fast food. We want Slow Food!” The momentum of the protest carried forward, leading to Slow Food International becoming an official movement three years later, when representatives from 15 countries signed the Manifesto, For the Defense of and the Right to Pleasure.
Decades later, Slow Food is now a worldwide member-based organization in more than 150 countries. Chapters coordinate local activities, projects, and events that combine the joy of food with the pursuit of justice.
As a local chapter, Slow Food Prescott hosts educational events and builds solidarity through partnerships to achieve good, clean, and fair food for all.
GOOD
Delicious, healthy, and culturally appropriate food is a right for everyone. We strive to honor the diversity of people, cultures, places, foods, and tastes. Joy is key to good food and brings us all to the table together.
CLEAN
How we grow food largely reflects how we care for the Earth. Food should be local, seasonal, and sustainably grown, without harming ecosystems or other living species. This includes production processes free of excessive or unnecessary pollutants and toxins, and proper handling of waste streams.
FAIR
Consider the amount of work it takes to go from seed to table; millions of people worldwide are involved in feeding the planet. We advocate for just and fair working conditions for farmers, fish-harvesters, food producers, Indigenous people, and all workers. Diversity is also key to making societies and ecosystems more resilient while making food more enjoyable. Food is a universal human right and should be accessible to all.
